JOKŪBAS RATKEVIČIUS

During the German occupation, Jokūbas Ratkevičius (Ratkevič), along with his wife Elena Ratkevičienė and daughter Raja Ratkevičiūtė, saved Boris Jochai, his mother, and sister in Švenčionys. Jokūbas Ratkevičius also provided shelter to other Jews: "Every day, every hour, anyone knocking on Kubos' (Ratkevičius) door, at any time of the day, could be sure of Kubos' sensitivity and assistance," wrote the president of the Švenčionys Jewish community, Bliuma Kac.

In 1997, Jokūbas Ratkevičius (posthumously) was awarded the Life Saviour’s Cross.
