Uborevičienė Elena

Dr. Jokūbas Abramavičius testifies:

I, below signed Abramavičius Jokūbas, son of Saliamonas, residing in Laisvės alėja 61, flat No.3, Kaunas, work at present as a medical doctor at the First Hospital of Kaunas.
During my imprisonment in the Vilijampolė Ghetto in 1943, a member of the underground named Ratneris (who was later killed as a partisan) informed me that children from the ghetto could be secretly admitted to the Vilijampolė crèche, headed by the Doctor Serge jus Baublys and senior nurse Uborevičienė Elena.
Ratneris, the member of the underground, told me that his daughter, like many other ghetto children, was in this crèche already.
Having found out about it, I managed to contact Doctor Petras Baublys and nurse Uborevičienė Elena about the admittance of my daughter. Although I had never met nurse Uborevičienė before, she showed lots of compassion, understanding, and willingness to help me out of my hopeless situation.
My daughter was admitted to the crèche. She and about twenty other ghetto children were under the care of nurse Uborevičienė, who was risking her own life by caring for them.
Thanks to nurse Uborevičienė, many ghetto children have survived. We are eternally grateful to her, and as long as we live we will never forget her.
