rescuers of jews

Žvironas Antanas

We, the undersigned Jewish citizen, testify that professor Žvironas took care and helped us a lot during the dark period of the Nazi rule.

For me, Movshovich Jakov Isaakovich, professor Žvironas used to bring food and money into the ghetto, actually risking his life.
Me, Žirnauskas Jakovas Gelechovich, received professor Žvironas ' help – as the possibility to hid in a village.
On the most critical moment when my death seemed to be inevitable I've received a letter with the suggestion to leave ghetto immediately and to go to some address written there. Professor Žvironas was the author of this letter. The letter was sent by him and reached me with the help of several his familiar persons.
So, in this way I was rescued and capable to reach the Red Army coming being alive. Professor Žvironas constantly cared about me also before I left the ghetto. Once we even met in the city after he suggested me to go out from the ghetto. He risked then to be caught by wildly cruel Gestapo men.
Everything, that professor Žvironas did for us, was made without our knowledge, without any our appeal, and without expectations of any award or acknowledgement. He did it driven by his unselfish humanity.
Professor Žvironas, a noble and deeply humane person, has watched the events happening during the Nazi occupation with anger and horror. He dedicated all his possibilities for help the victims of this bloody rule.
