My Grandfather Semion Grigorovich lived in Rudninkų street, in Vilnius.
He worked as a stoker in the "Casino" movies theater that was on the corner of the Didžioji and Rudninkų streets.
During the German occupation there was ghetto on Rudninkų street. It was separated from my Grandfather's home only by a bricks' wall. The house where my Grandfather lived and another building that belonged to ghetto had a mutual attic divided with boards partition.
My Grandfather took the Jews away in order to help them to avoid the inevitable death. Somebody has betrayed him to the police.
The "white arm-bandages" (baltaraiščiai) came and beat my Grandpa. They kicked him with legs and beat with sticks. After several days my Grandpa died.
Grandfather was buried in the Orthodox cemetery, Liepkalnio street.
The "white arm-bands" threatened my father Sergey and his sisters Valentina and Jekaterina that they would face the same destiny as my Grandfather did, if they'll tell anybody about the cause of Grandfather's death.
I was 11 years old then and often visited my Grandfather on Rudninku street.
During the 1956 year me and my husband used to communicate with Shmuel Kaplinsky who said that he knew about this case and remembered it perfectly.
