KLEMENSAS KAČERGIUS
VLADISLOVAS POLONSKIS

Klemensas Kacergius was a parson of Zemaiciai Kalvarija from 1941 to October 1942. When the war broke out, he hid doctor Samuel Sauchat and other Jewish people in his parsonage, sustained their spirit and faith that there would come a liberation from the Nazi regime.
In October 1942 the parish was taken over by Vladislovas Polonskis. With it he also inherited a secret of the hidden doctor whom he supported until the end of the war in Lithuania in 1944.
The effort put by the priests in Zemaiciai Kalvarija Klemensas Kacergius and Vladislovas Polonskis into supporting and rescuing the Jews can be proven by documents in the archives.
There are archived documents of former NKVD describing the great input made by priests Klemensas Kachergius and Vladislovas Polonskis in rescuer of the Jews during the Nazi occupation. The document is the report of October 18, 1944 about inhabitants of the Alsedziai region who participated in rescuing the Jews (LYA, f.  V-141, ap. 3, b. 1, l. 281-282).
The input of Klemensas Kacergius and Vladislovas Polonskis into saving the Jews was also described in the article of the bishop of Telsiai Dr. Jonas Boruta SJ in Lithuanian Catholic Academy of Science (T. 26. Vilnius, 2005).
Due to the determination and self-sacrifice of priests Klemensas Kacergius and Vladislovas Polonskis doctor Samuel Sauchat and the other Jews in the region were rescued.
