Mozelis Juozas
Juozas Mozelis was one of the leaders and organizers of the "Lithuanian anti-Nazi union" in Kaunas. He communicated with Juozas Vitas – the leader of Vilnius underground fighters.
Juozas Mozelis found the shelter for Leja Vilencikaite-Makeliene and her daughter Dalia in Kaunas, at Elena Zincenkiene's home. Elena Zincenkiene and her step-mother Michalina Pontikauskiene used to bring food, clothes, medicine into the ghetto. Physician V. Kuzma supplied the medicine, and J. Mozelis' comrades supplied clothes and food. This continued till fall 1942.
In October 1942 Juozas Mozelis moved to Vilnius and continued his anti-Nazi activities there. On August 3-d, 1943 J. Mozelis, returning from Sirvintai, entered his apartment on Daukanto street in Vilnius and here was arrested by Gestapo and driven into a prison. He was killed the following day during the investigation.
