Avraham Tory about Marijona Jurkšaitienė and her son Juozapas
The author of the Kaunas Ghetto chronicle, noted lawyer Avraham Tory (Abraomas Golubas) speaks very kindly about Marijona Jurkšaitienė and her son Juozapas in his book “Kauno getas: diena po dienos”. This is also evidenced by Avraham Tory’s letters to Juozapas Jurkšaitis. From the 24 May 1961 latter of Avraham Tory to Juozapas Jurkšaitis:
/.../ We have never forgotten You, my dearest Juozas. Despite the risk of death penalty had the Nazis found out that the citizens of Jewish nationality were hiding in your home, You not only sheltered the three of us, but also took care of everything with compassion and friendliness until the moment when the Nazis left your fatherland and Virvagaliai village.
