Szpakowski Arkadiusz
Arkadiusz Szpakowski
Arkadiusz Szpakowski lived in Paris after the revolution but before the 2-nd World War went to Vilnius. He settled in the rich owner's house in Pakalnės (Podgorna) street. After the Nazi occupation two Jewish sisters left their jewelry to the house owner for saving. But when they came to take some of their belongings the house owner pretended he didn't know them and began to drive them out his house.
Arkadiusz heard everything in his room. He began to defend the women, because he was a witness of their previous contacts with the owner. The house owner threatened him. The Jewish girls ran away and Arkadiusz was arrested the same night.
Arkadiusz's daughter learned this story from the neighbor who ran a restaurant in the same or next house then.
According to the documents kept in the Lithuanian Central State Archive, Arkadiusz Szpakowski was arrested on September 19, 1941, and imprisoned in Lukiškių prison. On December 22-nd, the same year, he was transferred to the Commander of Special Detachment. Such a formulation had the only meaning – he was shot.
