Paulavičius Kleopas

KLEOPAS PAULAVIČIUS

At the beginning of the German occupation, Kleopas Paulavičius lived in Kaunas. From July 1941, he worked as a truck driver at the “Lietūkis” company. In the summer of 1943, K. Paulavičius began maintaining contacts with the underground resistance in the Kaunas Ghetto. Using his covered truck, he secretly transported prisoners from the Kaunas Ghetto to retrieve weapons and into the woods. In the spring of 1944, Kleopas Paulavičius, along with several other associates, was captured and interrogated by the Gestapo. He only narrowly escaped death.

In 1995, Kleopas Paulavičius was awarded the Life Saviour‘s Cross.
