Juozas GLAVECKAS Anelė GLAVECKIENĖ Shmuel and Rebekka Gil were expecting a baby when the war broke out in Raseiniai. They were torn apart: Shmuel escaped to Russia, whereas Rebekka was put in the Kaunas Ghetto and this was where their daughter Rina born. When the Actions started, Rebekka tried to find a safe shelter for her daughter. Through a friend, Glickman, she contacted Juozas Glaveckas and Anelė Glaveckienė, who agreed to hide Rina. Rebekka gave her small daughter, who was 2 years old at that time, a sleeping pill and gave her away. Anelė told the neighbours that the girl was a relative. Anele wanted to give shelter to Rebekka as well, but she preferred to stay in the Ghetto and not to jeopardize her daughter in case she would be traced. Shmuel survived the war and was told that his wife was killed in the Kaunas Ghetto. He found out where his daughter had been hiding during the war and came to see her for the first time. Little Rina asked to stay with the Glaveckas family...
