Prison and Death for Help

During the war, the entire family of a rescuer faced death danger for helping Jews – in the eyes of Nazis, there were no difference between those rescuing Jews and the killed and persecuted Jews themselves. Those, who were following the principles of faith, compassion and morality, and were generously sharing humanity, did not deliberate upon the possibility of death for themselves and their children. The history will never know the exact number of rescuers of Jews who met the same fate as most of the Jews in our country. Neither will we know their names – only a few of them have been preserved for future generations from sparse documents and letters written by the relatives of the killed rescuers. Those are sacred names – examples of humanity and self-sacrifice for us and for future generations.
