Rescuers of Jews
From Fruma Kučinskienė's memoirs
about Natalija Fugalevičiūtė
I would switch my hideouts often and I did not feel secure in any of them; my name had been changed. My dearest Natalija Fugalevičiūtė felt my loneliness and she was the only person to have visited me. I felt her love and care and I would always wait for her to come. During winter days I would sit at the window in the attic waiting for a bird to come flying as if for a sign that Natasha would come and visit me that evening.
In the darkness that surrounded us, she became a light for many people. Natasha would always appear in the most dangerous places. Her extraordinary beauty and serenity would deceive the SS officers popping out of nowhere from time to time. She had a power to persuade other people to accept fugitives from the ghetto in their homes.
